Winter Wednesdays in Watford: dancing at the Pump House; keeping healthy and keeping an ancient tradition alive; singing in a summer pub and music in the beer garden; traveling the country and meeting new friends; drinking and chatting on a rainy evening in our green and pleasant land.
Morris Dancing isn't to everyone's taste, yet for the right person, it can be very rewarding, not only in providing an interesting diversion once a week, but also in contributing to a more healthy lifestyle, a sense of accomplishment, and a camaraderie among friends.
With practice in the winter and dancing out in the Summer, Woodside Morris Men have built up an excellent team atmosphere, which not only adds to enjoyment of the dances, but also to the time spent at different events. If the weather spoils the dancing, it rarely spoils an evening, the varied interests and careers of the team providing a great deal to chat about over a beer, or a lime and soda for the drivers!
If you are interested in joining Woodside Morris Men, then come along during the Summer for a chat, and maybe join in with Bonnie Green Garters, our traditional closing dance, and have a chat with us. Then come along to practise when we get going at the Pump House in September. Woodside's long standing Foreman, Dave Pearse, has decades of dance experience, and will soon get you working on your double step and capering. Hanky manipulation comes later!
The Pump House is excellently situated in Watford, with excellent access to transport:
Rail - only a minute's walk from Watford High Street station, five minutes from Bushey station, and about fifteen minutes from Watford Junction, all of which are on the Euston line.
Driving - only a minute's drive from the M1 link road, and just off the Watford ring road, so handy from just about anywhere. There is local parking outside, which can get a little busy if there is a performance on in the Pump House theatre, but there is always something near by.
Bus - we are only about five minutes walk from the centre of Watford, and so are handy for most busses coming into town, with stops on the lower high street for routes coming from Harrow/Stanmore direction.
Our members hail from all around the area, so there may also be the chance of a lift in once you've got your feet under the table.
Come along, it will be good to see you.
